The Umass Amherst Data Analytics and Computational Social Science program is oriented towards students who are focused on pursuing or advancing careers that rely heavily on framing, developing, and presenting data for evidence-based decision-making and communication or regularly interacting with computer scientists and other technical experts in fields such as political analysis, marketing analysis, financial analysis, product or project management, demographic analysis, social media analysis, strategic communication, and reputation management.

We currently offer three academic certifications through our program: a Letter of Specialization for Data Analysis in Politics, Policy and Legal Studies (DAPPLS) for undergraduate students, a Master’s of Science Degree in Data Analytics and Computational Social Science (DACSS), and a related graduate certificate in Data Analytics (C-DACSS). We seek students who want the technical skills to apply themselves directly to concrete questions and problems.  On this website, information about both programs is given in length, as well as information about the faculty/staff and the students themselves. There is also a blog where student work, faculty posts, and other contributions are located. This is a new program that is expected to induct its first students in Fall 2020. Information on this website is being constantly updated. Please check back reguarly, and if you have any questions please contact dacss@umass.edu.
